Background and Status Overview
The protagonist of this story and a 2nd Class SOLDIER who is a member of the SOLDIER Division of the Shinra Company. In his mid-teens, he left his hometown to take the entrance exam to become a SOLDIER, something he had always longed to do. He passed the exam with outstanding results and [has been working there] ever since. His sense of battle is superior to that of other SOLDIERs of his class, and he is capable of opposing a whole squadron of enemies by himself. In addition, he is receiving guidance from Angeal, an older SOLDIER who often accompanies him on missions.
He is more motivated than others to do his duty, but this is because his goal is to display showy actions and be promoted to 1st Class, and eventually be called a hero like Sephiroth. However, his enthusiasm is not highly appreciated, and he spends his days doing nothing but training
Appearance and Internal Traits
A young man with a fearless and spirited expression. He is characterized by his cheerfulness and friendliness, and an uncomplicated personality that expresses his feelings in a straightforward manner. He also has a simplistic sense of justice and believes that by fighting as a SOLDIER he can contribute towards others, but he is not recklessly belligerent and does not try to hurt his opponents more than necessary, even if they are monsters.
His weaknesses are that he is somewhat restless and unfocused, and he has trouble thinking deeply about things and reading complicated documents. In missions, he prefers to concentrate only on the battle, leaving the inconvenient thinking to others. On the other hand, he likes to be physically active and has a habit of doing squats to strengthen his legs and feet in his spare time, no matter where he is.
Main Relationships
As the protagonist, he has some kind of relationship with all the main characters, but four of them are featured here. He has a particularly close relationship with Angeal.
Angeal
An important friend and a good mentor to [Zack]. After his death, he becomes one of Zack’s heroic role models.
Sephiroth
The hero that Zack aims to become. In the beginning, he is a reliable ally, but he turns into a powerful enemy at the end of the story.
Cloud
The soldiers bond over their mutual feeling of being from the country. Through the mission, their friendship deepens and eventually they become close friends.
Aerith
A girl he meets in the slums. From the very beginning she makes a special impression on him, and through their repeated interactions becomes someone Zack never wants to be away from.

The Person who Cloud’s Personality is Based On
Outside of this game, BC and LO, Zack is already dead, and is only mentioned in the memories of Cloud and Aerith. Particularly in FFVII, he was depicted as one of the key people that form the basis of the personality that Cloud imitates. In the story of BC, which unfolds at about the same time as this work, he appears as a reliable coworker of the protagonists.
