Background and Status Overview

A 1st Class SOLDIER like Angeal and Genesis. He boasts the highest level of combat ability among the 1st Classes, and is arguably the strongest warrior known to mankind. He has always been active on the front lines since he was a boy of less than ten years old, and has earned numerous accomplishments. Furthermore, Shinra’s publicity campaign has made him a hero among the people.

The reason for this extraordinary strength is due to the details of his birth, which are unknown to him, and is related to the fact that he was created by Shinra’s bio-experiments like Genesis and Angeal were. However, the method was slightly different from theirs and was called “Project S”.

Appearance and Internal Traits

A tall, handsome young man with distinctive waist-length silver hair. Perhaps because he was raised from an early age with the people of Shinra imprinting on him that he is a special existence, he believes that he surpasses the people around him. Although he demonstrates outstanding abilities and is called a hero, in reality, Sephiroth himself does not seem to be interested in fame and fortune. Nor has he ever had what one might call a dream or a goal.

Although Sephiroth did not care much about others and did not proactively try to get involved with anyone, he felt oddly at ease with Angeal and Genesis, who fought shoulder-to-shoulder with him. Eventually, they become what Sephiroth can call the first friends in his life.

Main Relationships

Zack’s senior in SOLDIER. They become something like colleagues while pursuing Genesis and Angeal together. Later in the story, when he learns the secret of his birth in Nibelheim, he transforms into a fearsome enemy. He is eventually defeated by Cloud, and his human relationships in this work vanish then.

Zack

A younger colleague who becomes his mission partner. He had heard rumors of [Zack] from his friend Angeal.

Angeal

His friend and a SOLDIER. Although [Angeal] technically becomes an enemy early in the story, [Sephiroth] tries to help [him] even if he betrays Shinra.

Genesis

His friend and a SOLDIER. He is the one who reveals Sephiroth’s birth, which is the main reason their friendship breaks down.

Cloud

A soldier who is his subordinate in a mission. Although he was supposed to have been an opponent [Sephiroth] would have taken no notice of, [Sephiroth] was caught off-guard and fatally wounded [by him].

in 『FF VII』 Series

The Great Enemy that Brings Crisis to the World

Sephiroth is the biggest obstacle standing in the way of Cloud and the others in FFVII. He was depicted as a great enemy that terrorized the world, using “The Black Materia” to summon the planet-destroying magic “Meteor”. Once defeated by Cloud and the others, he is revived in AC and stands before Cloud again.

← In FFVII, Sephiroth’s rampage is depicted from Cloud’s perspective.

→ Sephiroth is revived by possessing Kadaj, Jenova’s tulpa.

TL Note: “tulpa” is literally “thought form”.
