Clive — Synopsis
The heir to the House of the Archdukes of Rosaria.
His full name is Clive Rosfield.
He is a trained swordsman who earned the title of Knight when he was young.
He harbors the power of the Phoenix’s Blessing, and has sworn to be his younger brother Joshua’s shield.
Kokuyōka: “Knight” is in katakana English here, rather than being the kanji for “knight. It is a title Clive has, rather than what his job/role is.
Clive — At Rosalith Castle
The heir to the House of the Archdukes of Rosaria.
Although he is the heir, his younger brother Joshua awakened as the Dominant of Phoenix, so the role of the next Archduke went to his younger brother.
Clive — The Phoenix Gate Assault
The heir to the House of the Archdukes of Rosaria.
Through the schemes of his mother, Arabella, he looses his father, Archduke Elwin and his younger brother, Joshua, who he swore to protect at the cost of his own life.
He was kept alive by Anabella, who noticed the utility of the power of the Phoenix’s Blessing and abased him to the status of a Bearer, a slave.
Kokuyōka: “to keep alive” can also mean “put to good use”. Given the context, both readings make sense here.
Clive — At Nysa Gorge
Clive thirteen years after becoming a Bearer-Soldier of the Sanbreque Empire.
The power of the Phoenix’s Blessing showed promise, so he was chosen to be a member of the Assassination Unit.
He goes down into the battlefield in the Nysa Gorge where the armies of the Iron Kingdom and the Republic of Dhalmekia are competing to assassinate the Dominant of the summoned beast Shiva.
The name Wyvern is an alias used on operations.
Clive — Escape
A former Bearer-Soldier of the Sanbreque Empire.
He defended the Dominant of the summoned beast Shiva, his assassination target, and deserted from the unit.
Surrounded by many Iron Kingdom soldiers on the battlefield of the Nysa Gorge, he is saved by Cid, who intervenes to rescue the Dominant, and comes to live in the Hideaway.
Clive — Ifrit Awakens
A former Bearer-Soldier of the Sanbreque Empire.
In order to take revenge on the person who killed his younger brother thirteen years ago, he and Cid were searching for the Dominant of the second Summoned Beast of Fire, but during a battle with Benedikta, the Dominant of Garuda, he himself manifested as the summoned beast Ifrit.
He sinks into the depths of despair when he realizes his younger brother’s foe is himself.
Clive — At Eastpool
A former Bearer-Soldier of the Sanbreque Empire and the Dominant of the summoned beast Ifrit.
Together with his childhood friend Jill, he steeped foot into Rosaria, his homeland, for the first time in thirteen years.
In the desolate farming village of Eastpool, he reunited with Hanna, General Murdoch’s widow, and received the equipment left behind by his father, Elwin.
Clive — Cid’s Companion
The Dominant of the summoned beast Ifrit.
In the Phoenix Gate Underground Ruins, he faced his past self, and accepted that he himself was Ifrit, his brother’s foe.
Afterwards, when Eastpool was assaulted, he decides to conspire with Cid as his companion to destroy the Mothercrystals.
Clive — Five Years Later
The Dominant of the summoned beast Ifrit.
In addition to [the power of] Ifrit, the Summoned Beast of Fire, he handles the powers of the summoned beasts absorbed from the other Dominants.
After the destruction of the Drake’s Head Mothercrystal, he inherited Cid’s thoughts and Ramuh’s power and has continued to work together with his companions.
Clive — Cid
The Dominant of the summoned beast Ifrit.
As the leader of the new Hideaway, he promotes protecting Bearers who are oppressed in various places, while scheming to destroy all the remaining Mothercrystals in Valisthea.
As the second Cid, he fights to make “a place where people can live as people”.
Clive — Mythos
The Dominant of the summoned beast Ifrit.
He absorbs the powers of the summoned beasts from the other Dominants and uses [their powers] as his own.
The more he takes in the powers of the summoned beasts, [the more] he comes closer [to having] the special body that Ultima is searching for as Mythos, but because [Clive] wishes to be a person and to live as a person, he challenges Ultima in battle.

Joshua — Synopsis
The next Archduke of Rosaria, and the Dominant of the summoned beast Phoenix.
His full name is Joshua Rosfield.
He respects his older brother, Clive, who he deeply trusts as his own Knight.
Joshua — The Phoenix Gate Assault
The next Archduke of Rosaria.
He is accepting of his position despite being very young, but he also has a childish side, such as not liking carrots.
During the Phoenix Gate Assault, he was [so] disturbed that his father was killed before his eyes that he let Phoenix go out of control and completely burned the surroundings, but he was defeated by another Summoned Beast of Fire that suddenly appeared.
Joshua — Robed Man
A robed man who appeared to be a Dominant of Fire who was working with an attendant.
He was captured by Benedikta at Novrant Fortress, but escaped in the confusion.
Afterward, he showed up in places like the northern part of Wind Continent and Phoenix Gate.
Joshua — The Phoenix
Clive’s younger brother and the Dominant of the summoned beast Phoenix.
He was thought to have been killed by another Summoned Beast of Fire that suddenly appeared at the Phoenix Gate Assault, but he successfully survived.
To hide his identity, he wears a robe, and works under the alias Margrace.
Joshua — The Seal
Clive’s younger brother and the Dominant of the summoned beast Phoenix.
He was thought to have died at the Phoenix Gate Assault, but thirteen years later, he showed up at Drake’s Head to protect his older brother, Clive.
After using Phoenix’s power to seal Ultima’s being inside his body, he disappears from Clive’s presence again.
Joshua — Reuniting with Clive Again

After traveling to various places to investigate Ultima’s purposes, he was finally able to reunite with his older brother, Clive, in the Crystalline Dominion after his whereabouts had been unknown for so long.

Clive’s younger brother and the Dominant of the summoned beast Phoenix.
After the Phoenix Gate Assault eighteen years ago, he was protected by the Phoenix Religious Order and has continued to investigate the being called Ultima as its sect leader.
To protect Clive, he continues to seal Ultima in his body using Phoenix’s regenerative power.
Joshua — Fighting Against Ultima
Clive’s younger brother and the Dominant of the summoned beast Phoenix.
As the sect leader of the Phoenix Religious Order, he continues his investigation and determines the form Ultima wants is that of 《Ifrit Risen》.
Although Ultima was sealed in his body with Phoenix’s power, he could not hold [Ultima] in check and decided to prepare himself to fight to the end with Clive in order to get revenge on the instigator of everything.

Her full name is Jill Warrick.
The daughter of the Chief of the Northern Countries, she lives with the House of the Archdukes of Rosaria.
She grew up with Clive and Joshua, and they became like siblings.

Clive’s childhood friend.
The daughter of the Chief of the Northern Countries, she lives with the House of the Archdukes of Rosaria.
She saw Clive and the others off from Rosalith Castle as they headed towards Phoenix Gate, but afterwards was caught up in the war and became separated from them for a long time.
Jill — At the Nysa Gorge
Clive’s childhood friend and the Dominant of the summoned beast Shiva.
As a Dominant affiliated with the Iron Kingdom, she fought with Titan of the Republic of Dhalmekia at the Nysa Gorge, as well as Clive and the others who were trying to assassinate her.
Because of Clive’s desertion, she avoided being assassinated, but she became unconscious because of her intense exhaustion.
Jill — The Iron Kingdom
Clive’s childhood friend and the Dominant of the summoned beast Shiva.
After the Phoenix Gate Assault, she was abducted by the Iron Kingdom Army who seized the opportunity to invade Rosalith and awakened as a Dominant when her life was in jeopardy.
Since then, she has been forced to fight as the Iron Kingdom’s “weapon”.
Jill — Reunion
Clive’s childhood friend and the Dominant of the summoned beast Shiva.
She lost consciousness for a long time after her withdrawal from the war front at the Nysa Gorge, but woke up after being warmly looked after by Tarja, the Hideaway’s doctor.
After being reunited with Clive, they decided to work together.

One of Clive’s supportive companions and the Dominant of the summoned beast Shiva.
Together with Clive, she inherits Cid’s dying wish and promotes protecting Bearers while scheming to destroy all the remaining Mothercrystals in Valisthea.

After the battle with Barnabas, Clive absorbed the summoned beast Shiva’s power at Shadow Cost on the Ash Continent.

In Mysidia, she realized from the aether left in the Sanctuary of Time that the Witch of the North, who devised the Time-Suspending Magic: Freeze, was a Dominant of Shiva.

Clive’s partner, a wolf cub.
A survivor of a wolf pack Archduke Elwin encountered during his northern campaign.
He was protected by Elwin and then bestowed on his son Clive.
Since then, he has been Clive’s good friend.
Torgal — The Phoenix Gate Assault
Clive’s partner, a wolf cub.
Elwin bestowed him on Clive as a souvenir from his northern campaign.
When Phoenix Gate was assaulted, they became separated for a long time.
Torgal — At the Nysa Gorge
The adult form of Torgal.
He had been separated from Clive for a long time, ever since the Phoenix Gate Assault, but they were reunited at the Nysa Gorge.
He had been working together with Cid.

His appearance is similar to that of a summoned beast.

A wolf species called an ice wolf that live in the north.
As its name reveals, the original ice wolf was a beast that accompanied the summoned beast Shiva and was said to have ice powers.
It is conjectured that since Torgal has been together with many Dominants since he was very young, he has different powers.

Clive’s partner.
A wolf species called an ice wolf.
Since the Phoenix Gate Assault, he continued to search for Clive by wandering all over Rosaria, while hiding his arms and flag in an important place so he would not forget the memories of his master.
The ornament on his forepaw was bestowed on Torgal by Cid and he still wears it as a memento.

Clive’s favorite chocobo.
Born in Rosaria Castle’s stables, she grew up being loved by Clive.
She is very loyal to her master, Clive, but she can be visibly cautious and dissatisfied around other unfamiliar partners.
Ambrosia — The Phoenix Gate Assault
Clive’s favorite chocobo.
When Phoenix Gate was assaulted, her whereabouts became unclear.
Ambrosia — The Heart of Rosaria
Clive’s favorite chocobo.
Her whereabouts had been unknown since the Phoenix Gate Assault, but she had been living in the Vassal Sate of Rosaria, leading a herd of stray chocobos.
Her noble protection of people traveling on the road from monsters and bandits is so great, the peddlers call her 《The Heart of Rosaria》.
After reuniting with Clive, she works together with him.
Nektar
A Moogle who settled in the Hideaway.
He was saved by Cid when he was crying because he was caught between some ruins, so he secretly followed [Cid] and wandered into the Hideaway. He settled in immediately.
He calls himself the Great Moogle Hero and voluntarily manages the Hunt Board.
For some reason, it seems he can communicate in words only with Clive.

Cid — Synopsis
A mysterious man who appeared in the Nysa Gorge.
He manipulates powerful lightning magic.
He appeared before Clive and Jill, who were surrounded by Iron King soldiers, and saved them from their predicament.
Cid — The Summoned Beast Ramuh
The leader of the Hideaway where the Bearers live, and the Dominant of the summoned beast Ramuh.
Despite the phenomenal powers he harbors, he is an easygoing man who lives without belonging to any specific nation.
He protects persecuted Bearers and Dominants according to his own beliefs.
Cid — Connection with Benedikta
The leader of the Hideaway where the Bearers live, and the Dominant of the summoned beast Ramuh.
His full name is Cidolfus Telamon.
He wishes to make a place where anyone can die as a person and continues to protect Bearers and Dominants.
He is an old acquaintance of Benedikta’s, having served as the Knight Commander of Waloed’s Army.
Cid — The Destruction of the Mothercrystal
The leader of the Hideaway where the Bearers live, and the Dominant of the summoned beast Ramuh.
He wishes to make a place where anyone can die as a person and continues to protect Bearers and Dominants.
He finally arrives at the fact that the Mothercrystals that bestow divine protection on people are the cause of the Black Region that is damaging Valisthea and he is scheming to destroy them.
Cid — Cid, the High Criminal
The leader of the Hideaway where the Bearers live, and the Dominant of the summoned beast Ramuh.
He destroyed the Drake’s Head Mothercrystal to stop the Black Region’s expansion, but was serious wounded while fighting a mysterious being and breathed his last, entrusting his own wishes and Ramuh’s power to Clive.
Later on, he became widely known throughout Valisthea as 《Cid, the High Criminal》.
Benedikta
Benedikta — Synopsis
The Commanding Officer of the Kingdom of Waloed’s Spy Unit.
Her full name is Benedicta Harman.
As a close aide of the king, she participated in the meeting with the Republic of Dhalmekia at Fort Zirnitra.
She and Hugo Kupka, the Dhalmekian Dominant appear to be friendly [with each other].
Benedikta — Secret Maneuvers in Sanbreque’s Territory
The Commanding Officer of the Kingdom of Waloed’s Spy Unit.
She is an excellent swords-master and a capable officer with many subordinates.
In order to use Hugo Kupka of the Republic of Dhalmekia, she shows signs of being interested [in him].
After the meeting at Fort Zirnitra, she led her men into Sanbreque’s Territory.
There seems to be some sort of connection between her and Cid.
Benedikta — The Fall of Norvent Fortress
The Commanding Officer of the Kingdom of Waloed’s Spy Unit and the Dominant of the summoned beast Garuda.
She is an excellent officer and used her troops to assault Norvent Fortress.
While she has a relationship with Hugo Kupka on King Barnabas’ orders, she has complicated mixed thoughts of love and hate for her former superior, Cid.
Benedikta — Her Last Moments
The Commanding Officer of the Kingdom of Waloed’s Spy Unit and the Dominant of the summoned beast Garuda.
At Norvent Fortress, Clive took away Garuda’s power [from her] and she fled in defeat.
Because of her shock of being attacked by bandits while in turmoil, her power as a Dominant went out of control and she turned into Garuda’s form, [and made] an enormous tornado, but her life ended while fighting Ifrit, who Clive had manifested as.

Hugo
Hugo — Synopsis
The Dominant of the summoned beast Titan.
His full name is Hugo Kupka.
A man who used his power as a Dominant to obtain status and wealth in the Republic of Dhalmekia.
He is not interested in protecting his country, but is cunning and moves only for his own interests.
He has a relationship with Benedikta, a solider of the allied nation of the Kingdom of Waloed.
Hugo — Benedikta’s Death
The Dominant of the summoned beast Titan.
He is a leading figure in the Republic of Dhalmekia, and even though he pursues his own interests, he loved Benedikta from the bottom of his heart.
When he finds out through a messenger from Waloed that Cid’s Faction killed Benedicta, he burns with intense anger against them.
Hugo — Hugo’s Movements
The Dominant of the summoned beast Titan.
He is the Financial Advisor to the Council, the government of the Republic of Dhalmekia, and has a private army that moves as it pleases due to his money and [political] power.
After deciding that Cid, who had killed Benedikta, and his faction were his bitter foes, he destroyed their Hideaway in the form of the summoned beast Titan, and afterwards sent his private army everywhere in pursuit of Cid who continued to be in hiding.
Hugo — In the Former Capital of Rosalith
The Dominant of the summoned beast Titan.
When he learns that the true identity of Benedikta’s foe, Cid, is Clive, he assaults the former capital of Rosalith, to lure him out.
He challenged Clive to a fight when he appeared, but was defeated and lost both arms.
He was abducted by a mysterious man and vanished.
Hugo — His Last Moments
The Dominant of the summoned beast Titan.
At Dazbog Castle, his residence, Titan went out of control after [coming into] contact with the Core of Drake’s Fang.
Clive, who had arrived to get revenge on Hugo, manifests as Ifrit and clashes with him.
At the end of a fierce battle, Hugo’s life ended as Drake’s Fang disappeared.
Dion
Dion — Synopsis
A dragoon of the Empire of Sanbreque and the Dominant of the summoned beast Bahamut.
His full name is Dion Lesage.
He is in command of a knightly order and leads the vanguard in battle.
Dion — At Belenus Hill
A dragoon of the Empire of Sanbreque and the Dominant of the summoned beast Bahamut.
He clashed with Waloed at Belenus Hill, where he manifested as Bahamut and did battle with Odin.
He is also the Imperial Prince of Sanbreque, and is fully and respectfully loyal to his father, the Divine Emperor of Sanbreque.
Dion — Oliver’s Enthronement as Divine Emperor
The son of the Abdicated Divine Emperor Sylvestre and the Dominant of the summoned beast Bahamut.
He is the leader of the Order of the Divine Knights Dragoon.
He is worried about his adored father’s bad governance and cold treatment of himself and he grows angry with the Divine Empress Dowager Anabella, who enthroned Olivier as Divine Emperor to satisfy her own ambitions.
Dion — Dion’s Rebellion
The son of the Abdicated Divine Emperor Sylvestre and the Dominant of the summoned beast Bahamut.
In order to cleanse the darkness defiling Sanbreque, he causes a rebellion to get revenge on the Divine Empress Dowager Arabella and the Divine Emperor Olivier.
In the turmoil, Bahamut went out of control when he accidentally killed Sylvestre.
The Crystalline Dominion collapsed [as a result].

Dion — Meeting Kihel
The Dominant of the summoned beast Bahamut.
After the collapse of the Crystalline Dominion, he was treated for his wounds in the Hideaway.
In order to come to terms with the tragedy he himself had brought about, he went to the Crystalline Dominion [despite] being wounded everywhere, and therefore lost consciousness.
His life is saved by Kihel, a girl selling medicine.
Dion — At Ran’dallah

He is treated as the leading mediator who drew up the cease-fire agreement proposal from the Republic of Dhalmekia.

Together with Clive and the others, she went to the Sanctuary of Time and released Waljas, who was being sealed with the Time-Suspending Magic: Freeze.
She decided that from then on, she would raise him as [someone] precious as his foster parent.

Around eighty years ago in Mysidia, he was born into the family of the clan heads of the People of Water.
He awakened as a Dominant shortly after birth, but he went out of control and manifested as Leviathan during a ceremony that was trying to utilize Waljas’ power.
His time is stopped along with [the time] of the large wave he pulled up then, and he is sealed in the form of a baby.
Waljas — The Truth
The Dominant of the summoned beast Leviathan.
Since Dominants have large amounts of aether inside their bodies, [Waljas’ body] was considered to be a substitute Core in the ceremony to produce the People of Water’s Mothercrystal. As a result of forcibly drawing out his aether, [Waljas] went out of control and manifested as Leviathan.
His time is stopped by the Time-Suspending Magic: Freeze, and the entirety of Neptune’s Wave Wall is sealed.

She was a migrating worker at the brothel 《The Veil of Night》 in Northreach, and fell in love with Harvey, a young man from Sanbrque who was a client of hers.
For the sake of her family, she left behind just a note and returned home to the village, but was reunited in Mysidia with her sweetheart who was following her.
Jamaila’s had just given birth to a child, and was named as Waljas’ wet nurse.

The healer of the village of the People of Water.
She uses her knowledge of medicine and spells to keep the villagers healthy.
While taking care of Talor, who had fallen ill, she was investigating the Tonberry Tribe’s curse, thinking it was the origin of his illness.

He is the father of Pavaat, the blacksmith.
He was afflicted by a physical illness that seemed to be the Tonberry Tribe’s curse.
In the past, he was chased and tortured by the Inquisition officials in Sanbreque, where he had gone to procure supplies when he was younger. He remembered his grudge [from that time] and dedicated offerings at the Tonberry Tribe’s alter.
Rowan
A Rosarian peddler trading at Martha’s Inn.
Ambrosia, known as 《The Heart of Rosaria》, saved him from a bandit assault.
He celebrated the reunion of Ambrosia and Clive by providing them with a harness and eye patch.
[Later], he shared with them Mimet Greens, which have a calming effect, that the chocobos needed to get to Mysidia by sea.

A northerner who was called a witch.
Around eighty years ago, she devised the Time-Suspending Magic: Freeze, to prevent the Drake’s Eye Mothercrystal’s disappearance, but her plan failed.
Because of that, she was driven out of her country. When she was half-petrified and dying alone in Mysidia, she was saved by the People of Water and passed away after telling them about the existence of Freeze and how to manipulate it.
The Witch of the North — A Former Shiva
A northerner who was called a witch.
Around eighty years ago, she devised the Time-Suspending Magic: Freeze, to prevent the Drake’s Eye Mothercrystal’s disappearance.
Deep inside the Sanctuary of Time, Freeze’s “keystone” is filled with Shiva’s aether, and it is conjectured that the Witch was a Dominant of Shiva.
Ysay — Connection to Mysidia
A former Dominant of the summoned beast Shiva.
Around eighty years ago, she devised the Time-Suspending Magic: Freeze, to prevent the Drake’s Eye Mothercrystal’s disappearance.
She lived in Mysidia before the People of Water arrived, and was researching Freeze at the Sanctuary of Time.

The entire continent is a series of mountain ranges and sea cliffs with small amounts of lush nature and it is intensely eroded by the Black Region.
The only existing state is the Kingdom of Waloed.
The Hideaway
Cid’s Hideaway
Cid’s Hideaway — Synopsis
A hideaway in the Black Region at the center of the Wind Continent.
It is the base of operations for Cid and His Crew.
Normally, the Black Region is not a environment people can live in, but after a long period of ingenuity and using the stable ruins from the era of the Sky Civilization, it has become possible for them to lead a life together with the Bearers they are protecting.
Cid’s Hideaway — Protecting Bearers
A hideaway in the Black Region at the center of the Wind Continent.
It is the base of operations for Cid and His Crew.
Protected Bearers in the Hideaway are given with warm meals and a safe place to sleep.
Because Bearers are forbidden from disobeying their master’s wishes, and are generally treated as slaves, many of them are initially bewildered by life in the Hideaway.
Cid’s Hideaway — Hugo’s Assault
Cid and His Crew’s hideaway that once existed in the Black Region at the center of the Wind Continent.
In 873 CC, Hugo Kupka, the Dominant of Titan, assaulted the Hideaway with his private army.
The Hideaway collapsed, and many of Cid’s compansions and the Bearers who were being protected lost their lives.
Clive and His Crew’s Hideaway
A new hideaway in the Black Region at the center of the Wind Continent and the current base of operations for Clive and the others.
After Hugo assaulted the former Hideaway, it was rebuilt centered around Clive, who inherited Cid’s name.
It was built using airship ruins that were in Bennu Lake so that outside enemies could not easily get close to it.
Kokuyōka: “Clive” here is plural in Japanese, which includes all the people with Clive in the Hideaway. The people following Cid and Clive don’t really have an official group name in Japanese or English, but having a way to refer to them as a group is helpful for several Japanese translations.
Bennu Lake

The vast lake is dotted with airship ruins and is also called “The Airship Graveyard”.
Clive and the others built the new Hideaway using one of them.
The Hideaway only stands quietly because [Bennu Lake] is not visited by people as it is far from any trade routes and entirely surrounded by the Black Region.

The duchy was founded by uniting small countries [together], and is ruled by the Archduke Elwin.
The country’s own Mothercrystal, Drake’s Breath, has been effectively controlled by the Iron Kingdom and has been disputed for many years.
The Imperial Vassal Sate of Rosaria — Annexation by Sanbreque
The former Duchy of Rosaria is located in the central-western part of the Wind Continent.
After the Phoenix Gate Assault in 860 CC, Rosaria lost its Archduke and its capital was invaded by the Iron Kingdom, while it was not under [anyone’s] control.
The battle lead to the country’s weakening, and it was integrated into the Empire of Sanbreque and became a vassal state.
The Imperial Vassal Sate of Rosaria — Anabella’s Tyrannical Rule
The former Duchy of Rosaria is located in the central-western part of the Wind Continent.
Weakened by the Archduke’s death and the Iron Kingdom’s invasion, it became a vassal state of the Empire of Sanbreque in 861 CC.
The tyrannical rule of the former Archduchess Anabella, who became the new Divine Empress, places people under surveillance and imposes heavy taxes.
Furthermore, the treatment of Bearers was far more intense than in the days of the duchy.

For over a decade, it was a vassal state of the Empire of Sanbreque, under the tyrannical rule of Anabella, the Viceroy of the Vassal State.
However, in 878 CC, the Order of Holy Knights Dragoon led by Dion caused a rebellion and the Sanbreque homeland was destroyed.
In the middle of that, Anabella also died, and now [Sanbreque’s] control of Rosaria has become only a formality.
Rosalith
Rosalith — Synopsis
The capital of the Duchy of Rosaria is located in the central-western part of the Wind Continent.
Rosalith Castle, the residence of the Archduke, is located here and the castle town is lined with lively markets.
In recent years, it is overflowing with immigrants from the North, who have been robbed of their homes by the spread of the Black Region.

The capital of the former Duchy of Rosaria is located in the central-western part of the Wind Continent.
After its annexation by the Empire of Sanbreque, Anabella, who became Divine Empress, established the Viceregency of the Vassal State.
Most of the population was dispersed or taken as captives in the pillage by Iron Kingdom when they took advantage of the civil war. Today, only a few people who are obedient to Sanbreque live there.
Rosalith — The Rosalith Assault
The capital of the former Duchy of Rosaria is located in the central-western part of the Wind Continent.
After its annexation by the Empire of Sanbreque, Anabella, who became Divine Empress, established the Viceregency of the Vassal State.
Although only a small part of the population remained after that, Hugo Kupka lead his own private army to assault it and the castle town collapsed.
Nearly all of the remaining population was driven out of the town.

It is the residence of the Archduke and his family, and all the country’s politics are conducted here.
The robust castle has a castle town at its base and has a history since the country’s founding. Many successive generations of Archdukes lived in the castle and built up the prosperity of the duchy.

Once, it was the residence of the Archduke and his family, and all the country’s politics were conducted here.
After the Phoenix Gate Assault in 860 CC, it was ruled by the Empire of Sanbreque, but it was assaulted by Hugo Kupka and his private army and the castle town collapsed.

Phoenix Gate
Phoenix Gate — Synopsis
The fort is located in the northwest of the Duchy of Rosaria.
Originally built for the wars against the Northern Countries, it ended its role as a vital defensive [point] when the Duchy of Rosaria pacified the North.
Today it is mainly a place for performing sacred ceremonies and is used by the Dominant of the summoned beast Phoenix for the practice of seeking divine revelation about military affairs before a battle.
Phoenix Gate — The Phoenix Gate Assault
The fort is located in the northwest of the Imperial Vassal Sate of Rosaria, and only the site [of the demolished fort] remains there now.
In 860 CC, it collapsed right after the Pheonix Gate Assault by the Empire of Sanbreque, when two Summoned Beasts of Fire clashed.
Phoenix Gate, filled with piles of rubble, was abandoned after the Duchy of Rosaria became a vassal state of the Empire of Sanbreque.
Phoenix Gate — The Underground Ruins
The fort is located in the northwest of the Imperial Vassal Sate of Rosaria, and only the site [of the demolished fort] remains there now.
Ancient ruins lie underground and before the Duchy of Rosaria was annexed, the Dominant of the summoned beast Phoenix was using them as a holy place to preform the Ceremony of Divine Revelation.
No one except the Dominant is allowed to enter the ruins.
The Hall of Divine Revelation
The deepest part of the ruins underneath Phoenix Gate in the northwestern part of the Imperial Vassal Sate of Rosaria.
The altar is decorated with a huge mural and was used as a place for the Dominant of the summoned beast Phoenix to preform ceremonies before military affairs.
Rosaria — Organizations
The Army of the Duchy of Rosaria
The regular army of the Duchy of Rosaria.
Command power is held by the Archduke, and a general appointed by the Archduke leads the army.
Some of those who are recognized for [being from] a prestigious family or for personal qualities are called “knights” and they have a role similar to royal guards and are the Archduke’s escorts.

The Guardians of the Embers
The Guardians of the Embers — Synopsis
An organization in the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria that opposes the Viceregency’s tyrannical rule caused by Anabella.
It was organized around the duchy knights who survived the Phoenix Gate Assault in 860 CC.
Based out of Lazarus Street near Port Isolde, they continued to protect Bearers in various places.
The Guardians of the Embers — Collaborating with Martha
An organization in the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria that opposes the Viceregency’s tyrannical rule caused by Anabella.
It was organized around the duchy knights who survived the Phoenix Gate Assault in 860 CC.
After their base, Lazarus Street, was submerged in an aether pool, they cooperated closely with Martha.
[After] collaborating with her, they moved to Eastpool and now continue to protect Bearers and do other [projects].
The House of the Rosfield Archdukes
The family line that serves as the sovereigns of the Duchy of Rosaria.
The Dominant of the summoned beast Phoenix is born only in the bloodline of the House of the Archduke, and it is established that [the Dominant] will become the next Archduke when they come of age.
The Seven Families of Rosaria
Seven family lines that have supported the Duchy of Rosaria.
They are the lineages of the small countries that were competing [with each other] before Rosaria’s founding and remained as an influential nobility after the duchy’s founding.
Byron Rosfield, younger brother of Elwin, the Archduke, is one of them.
He also had a strong influence on politics, but was stripped of his authority after Rosaria was annexed.
The Phoenix Religious Order
The Phoenix Religious Order — Synopsis
A group that supported the House of the Archdukes of Rosaria from behind the scenes.
They worship the summoned beast Phoenix and its Dominant as sect leader and coordinated the Ceremony of Divine Revelation at Phoenix Gate.
Only the heirs of the Archduke’s throne are permitted to contact them, and even after the duchy became a vassal state, they act according to the orders of Joshua Rosfield, the rightful heir to the Archduke’s House.
The Phoenix Religious Order — Investigating Ultima
A group that supported the House of the Archdukes of Rosaria from behind the scenes.
They worship the summoned beast Phoenix and its Dominant as sect leader and coordinated the Ceremony of Divine Revelation at Phoenix Gate.
Currently, they are investigating Ultima according to the orders of Joshua, the sect leader.
They prioritize their lord’s orders above all else, and will not hesitate to loose their lives for the sake of their cause.
The Archduke’s Faction
People who adore and support Rosaria’s Archduke.
After Rosaria became a vassal state, it was oppressed by the Viceregency and the residents of Eastpool, who were sheltering Bearers, were regarded as the Archduke’s Faction and massacred.
Rosaria was founded by unifying [several] small competing countries, and the influential nobles of each small country [formed] Noble Factions to contend with the Archduke’s Faction.
Rosaria — Cities & Towns
Martha’s Inn
A relay station located in the eastern part of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria.
It is built centered around an inn and tavern on a plateau in the wetlands and has a mercenary station and a market.
For Rosaria’s people, who have experienced misfortune since [Rosaria] became a vassal sate of the Empire of Sanbreque, it is a place to alleviate their travel fatigue.
Kokuyōka: “relay station” is literally “inn place”. Much like the terms used to describe what type of castle and town Rosalith is, this is a term from historical Japan and refers to a specific type of town. In this case, one centered around being a place for travelers to rest and change horses and other forms of transportation.
The Bloodaxe Mercenary Group
A mercenary group hired by Martha’s Inn.
They established a post at the inn and are responsible for a wide range of jobs from eliminating bandits to escorting merchants.
The mercenary group continues to protect the town in place of the garrisoned soldiers of the Viceregency, who are unconcerned with Rosaria’s settlements.
Glaidemond Abbey
An abbey on a hill facing Sorrow Cove in the central part of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria.
It was built after the Duchy of Rosaria became a vassal sate of the Empire of Sanbreque with the goal of spreading the Greagor All-Faith.
For that reason, its architecture is in the imperial style, which is rare in Rosaria.
Eastpool
Eastpool — Synopsis
A settlement in the northern-central part of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria.
Once filled with rich farm land, the inhabitants have left and it is deserted as the Black Region from the North has eroded up to the village border.
Eastpool — The Eastpool Assault
A settlement in the northern-central part of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria.
Once filled with rich farm land, the Black Region from the North has eroded up to the village border.
After the Invasion of Rosaria by the Iron Kingdom in 860 CC, the people of the Archduke’s Faction and Bearers who had lost their masters secretly took refuge here, but the village was destroyed in an assault directed by the Divine Empress Anabella.
Eastpool — Retaking Eastpool
A settlement in the northern-central part of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria.
After the purge by Anabella, the Viceroy of the Vassal State, bandits settled into the deserted village.
With Clive’s help, the village was retaken, and became the place 《The Guardians of the Embers》 and the Bearers who had been taking refuge at Martha’s Inn moved to.
The Eastpool Assault
In 873 CC, Eastpool, located to the northeast of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria, was assaulted.
Anabella, the Divine Empress of the Empire of Sanbreque, carries out a purge against the village’s Bearers and the Archduke’s Faction, who were sheltering them.
Eastpool was destroyed in the tragic incident.
Amber
A settlement located in the southern part of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria.
It is in a mountainous region far away from urban areas, and [the people there] make their living by selling crops and wild plants they gather.
Auldhyl Shipyard
A shipyard located in the southern-central part of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria.
Originally a village of shipwrights, 《The Guardians of the Embers》, who resisted the Viceregency secretly protected Bearers [here].
However, when the Black Knights learned of that, they were purged as an example, and destroyed.
The Big Bewit Bridge
One of the aqueducts from the era of the former Duchy of Rosaria.
It spans the inland sea called the Phoenix Talon and connects the Rosalith area with the eastern part of Rosaria.
It was built to bring water to regions that did not have water sources to deal with the spread of the Black Region in the North, and was also intended to increase employment through its construction.
However, the project was canceled after Elwin’s death and now it only functions as a bridge.
The Lazarus District
The Lazarus District — Synopsis
A district in the southwestern part of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria, nearby Port Isolde.
It once flourished as a center of the nobility, and had a glamorous aspect as the back room of Port Isolde.
After Rosaria became a vassal state of the Empire of Sanbreque, it was occupied by the Imperial Army, but the district was abandoned after Sanbreque’s relocation of the capital, and today is an place people do not come near.

Port Isolde
Port Isolde — Synopsis
A city located in the western part of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria.
It is the largest city after Rosalith, and during Archduke Elwin’s reign in Rosaria, it was bustling with trading ships coming and going as a gulf port city.
Since becoming a vassal state of the Empire of Sanbreque, both its military bases and markets have been under the empire’s control, and its people are deprived of their freedom.
Port Isolde — After the Army’s Withdrawal
A city located in the western part of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria.
After the Viceregency’s long tyrannical regime and a severe exclusion of refugees by the occupying forces, the army withdrew because of the chaos in the Sanbreque homeland due to the collapse of the Self-Governing Dominion’s Island.
It is currently guarded by mercenaries hired by Byron Rosfield, and is accepting refugees.
Cressida Ghost Town
An ghost town in the central part of the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria, not far from Martha’s Inn.
With Rosaria becoming a vassal state and the expansion of the Black Region, the impoverished inhabitants left, and it is now a den of monsters and barbarian tribes.
Some of its former inhabitants live at Martha’s Inn.
Rosaria — Important Incidents
The Phoenix Gate Assault
In 860 CC, the Empire of Sanbreque assaulted Phoenix Gate in the Duchy of Rosaria.
Archduke Elwin was murdered, and his two sons who were accompanying him are also thought to have died.
It started when Archduchess Anabella conspired with the Empire of Sanbreque and sent her country’s inside information [to them]. Officially, it was treated as an accident caused by the summoned beast Phoenix going out of control and the reality of it was buried in darkness.
The Annexation of Rosaria
In 861 CC, the annexation of the Duchy of Rosaria by the Empire of Sanbreque happened.
The Archduchess Anabella conspired with Sanbreque [for it to] assault Phoenix Gate.
The incident was covered up, but Rosaria lost its Archduke and was further weakened by the Iron Kingdom’s invasion.
It was annexed by Sanbreque, who was watching for an opportunity, and it became a vassal state.
Hugo’s Assault on Rosalith
In 878 CC, Hugo Kupka lead his private army in an assault on Rosalith Castle in the Imperial Vassal State of Rosaria.
His goal was to get revenge for Benedikta Harman and to call out Clive Rosfield, who had inherited Cid’s name.
Rosalith Castle, and its castle town, which had turned into a battlefield, were engulfed in flames, which resulted in many casualties.

The imperial capital of the Empire of Sanbreque is located in the northeastern part of the Wind Continent.
It was built at the foot of Drake’s Head, on part of the peninsula overlooking Oillepheist Bay.
Important national institutions are concentrated in the city, such as Whitewyrm Castle, the Divine Emperor’s residence and where the Senate meetings are held.
Oriflamme — Drake’s Head Disappearance
The imperial capital of the Empire of Sanbreque is located in the northeastern part of the Wind Continent.
In 873 CC, after Drake’s Head disappeared due to Cid’s Faction, a secretly planned invasion of the Crystalline Dominion took place.

A castle located in Oriflamme, the imperial capital of the Empire of Sanbreque.
The chalk [white] castle is built back [against] the towering Drake’s Head Mothercrystal, overlooking the beautiful town spreading out from its base.
Drake’s Head
Drake’s Head — Synopsis
The Mothercrystal the Empire of Sanbreque possesses.
It is so tall it touches the sky and towers over the imperial capital of Oriflamme at its base.
It is a symbol of the empire’s glory and prosperity, but recently, the surrounding area is being damaged by the Black Region, and the country’s upper echelons are searching for new abundant lands.
Drake’s Head — Drake’s Head Disappearance
The Mothercrystal the Empire of Sanbreque once possessed.
It was a symbol of the Empire’s glory and prosperity, and [something] the people relied on, but it disappeared in 873 CC when it was penetrated by Cid’s Faction.
Drake’s Head Disappearance
In 873 CC, the Mothercrystal possessed by the Empire of Sanbreque disappeared.
It is conjectured that Cid’s Faction penetrated Drake’s Head from the imperial capital of Oriflamme and took advantage of the chaos [caused by] an aether pool occurring at the same time to do some sort of act that led to [Drake’s Head] disappearing.
Norvant Fortress
A fortress located in the central-southern part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
It is at a strategic point down south of the imperial capital of Oriflamme and is known as one of the most solid fortresses in the empire.
In the fortress are [rooms] like a small living quarters, a church, a dungeon, and food storage, and it can withstand a siege.
Sanbreque — Organizations
The Sanbreque Imperial Army
The regular army of the Empire of Sanbreque.
Formally, it is subject to the Senate; in reality, it operates at the Divine Emperor’s instruction.
On the battlefield, elite spearmen called “dragoons” are their core attackers, and they have defeated many fortifications with surprise attacks that put their [ability to jump] high to good use.

Kokuyōka: The “knight” in the name is actually redundant in English as “dragoon” is literally “dragon knight” in Japanese.
The Order of Holy Knights Dragoon — Dion’s Rebellion
The elite knightly order of the Empire of Sanbreque.

Dragoons
Elite soldiers belonging to the Empire of Sanbreque.

The Order of Black Wing Knights
A special forces unit of the Viceregency of the Empire of Sanbreque [made] for carrying out the Bearer Purge.
It is composed of knights in black armor, as if it was the counterpart to the Order of Holy Knights Dragoon.
The names [of the people in it] are not revealed publicly. They are known and feared in Rosaria as the “Black Knights” because they were massacring Bearers in various places.
The Black Knights
The Black Knights — Synopsis
Soldiers of a special forces unit belonging to the Viceregency of the Empire of Sanbreque.
It is a unit established by the Viceroy of the Vassal State of Rosaria, and it is conducting Bearer Purges throughout Rosaria.
The Black Knights — Umbra Squad
Soldiers of a special forces unit belonging to the Viceregency of the Empire of Sanbreque.
It is a unit established by Anabella, the Viceroy of the Vassal State of Rosaria and its main unit is called “Umbra Squad”.
Based on a philosophy of “eliminating the Vassal State of Rosaria’s defilement”, it is conducting Bearer Purges and eliminating the Archduke’s Faction, who are an obstacle to Anabella.
Kokuyōka: “defilement” is a term that will later be used by Imreann at Drake’s Breath to describe Bearers and Dominants.
The Black Knights — Lostwing Investigation
Soldiers of a special forces unit belonging to the Viceregency of the Empire of Sanbreque.
It is a unit established by Anabella, the Viceroy of the Vassal State of Rosaria and it was used for Bearer Purges and eliminating the Archduke’s Faction, who were an obstacle to Anabella.
Some of the Black Knights were hired by the former Attorney-General of Sanbreque, to investigate the inhabitants of Lostwing, who were after his life.
The Senate
A congress assisting the Divine Emperor’s administration in the Empire of Sanbreque.
It is composed of members called the Five Sages, of which the Head Sage is the chairman.
Officially, the Senate is granted political and military authority, but in reality, the Divine Emperor has absolute say.
The Five Sages
The five senators who control the Empire of Sanbreque’s government.
As the Senate, they assist the Divine Emperor’s administration. Each sage is called by their title.
The chairman is the Head Sage who is responsible for the imperial capital of Oriflamme. It is composed of four others who govern the eastern, western, southern and northern territories.
The Judicial Office
The government office that handles the judicial affairs of the Empire of Sanbreque.
In the past, Quinten served as a judicial officer and looked up to the justice and beliefs displayed by the Attorney-General of that time as [his own] ideals.
However, behind the scenes, he enjoyed hunting Bearers, and when Quinten became aware of it, [Quinten] accused him.
As a result, his family was massacred on the director’s instructions, and [Quinten] vowed [to take] revenge.
The Viceregency of the Vassal State

Lostwing — Synopsis
A settlement located in the central part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
It is in an area coming out of the northeast of the Greatwood Forest and was built centered around the ruins of an airship.
It once prospered as a trading stop, but it was deserted since a new main road was built and its name vanished from maps.
Lostwing — A Community of People and Bearers
A settlement located in the central part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
It is the base [of operations] of Quinten, Cid’s collaborator.
In a deserted village, Quinten lived in hiding and concealed Bearers and secretly built a community of people and Bearers.
Vineyards are adjacent to it, and the wine brand 《Gordon Rouge》 is a valuable source of income.
Lostwing — Quinten’s Affairs
A settlement located in the central part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
It is the base [of operations] of Quinten, Cid’s collaborator.
Qinten’s goal is to get revenge on Sanbreque’s former Attorney-General, and to do so, he was rebuilding a deserted village and gathering his comrades.
When Quinten realized the Black Knights were investigating the village, he turned towards carrying out his revenge.
Lostwing — Family
A settlement located in the central part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
It is the base [of operations] of Quinten, Cid’s collaborator.
Quinen’s goal of revenge was accomplished, but at the same time, he lost many comrades, and his village was engulfed in an aether pool.
He was left with only a vineyard on the village outskirts and a small “family”, but with new determination, he started rebuilding the village.
The Hanged Man
A tavern in Lostwing.
Quinten, who brings the village together, runs the shop as the manager.
In addition to providing alcohol and light meals to the residents, he also raises the necessary capital to turn the village around, including looking for wine wholesalers while stocking up.
Northreach
Northreach — Synopsis
A checkpoint town located in the northern part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
The town was originally built as a military fortress and its ramparts were built to serve as a checkpoint into the imperial capital of Oriflamme.
Inside its walls are many soldiers and nobles, and in addition to the Sanbreque Army’s garrison, [the town] is lined with the taverns and brothels they use. Meanwhile, outside its walls, merchants from home and abroad meet up and form an unorganized open-air market.
Northreach — Drake’s Head Disappearance
A checkpoint town located in the northern part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
Its ramparts were built serve as a checkpoint into the imperial capital of Oriflamme, but with the relocation of the capital to the Crystalline Dominion, its function faded, and the town has lost its vigor.
Due to the disappearance of Drake’s Head, the wheat fields that fill the Oriflamme area have had declining crop yields, and the scenery has become completely desolate.
Northreach — Reconciliation with Lord Oriflamme
A town located in the northern part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
After Primordial Wedge, the Oriflame area sunk into an aether plool, and was threatened by mysterious monsters.
The residents had conflicting opinions over Lord Oriflamme’s policy of fortifying the town, but they united by cooperating to protect the town from the monsters.
Isabelle and Lord Oriflamme joined forces, and a new system was implemented.
The Veil of Night

A brothel in Northreach.
Although the establishment is known to cater to the army and the nobility, the owner, Madame Isabelle, does not discriminate against anyone, and it is universally loved by the soldiers and residents as a place to relax.

Based on the beliefs of its owner, Madame Isabelle, it supports the town by lending a helping hand to those in trouble.
After the look of the sky transformed, it protected refugees from Oriflamme and Moore.

In 873 CC, an international border dispute between the Empire of Sanbreque and the Kingdom of Waloed happened.

Both countries sent out the summoned beasts Bahamut and Odin respectively, but Waloed was superior as the battle progressed, and Sanbreque lost a battalion.

Olivier’s Accession to the Divine Imperial Throne — Synopsis
The accession to the throne by Olivier Lesage, the second prince of the Empire of Sanbreque.
Olivier was born to and received favor from Anabella, who remarried the Divine Emperor Sylvestre.
Dion, the first prince, was commanding the army at the encampment on the outskirts of the Crystalline Dominion when he received news of the abdication.
Olivier’s Accession to the Divine Imperial Throne — The Truth
The accession to the throne by Olivier Lesage, the second prince of the Empire of Sanbreque.
Olivier’s accession to the throne is thought to be in praise of his achievement of making peace with the Republic of Dhalmekia.
The accession of an immature imperial prince to the throne was unprecedented, but Sylvestre declared that [Olivier] would serve as the guardian of the government as Greagor’s incarnation and the objections of Dion, the first prince, were not heeded.
Dion’s Rebellion
In 878 CC, a rebellion by the Order of Holy Knights Dragoon of the Empire of Sanbreque happened in the Crystalline Dominion.
It is thought to have begun when the Divine Emperor Silvestre transferred the imperial throne to Olivier, who was born to the Divine Empress Anabella.
Dion, commander of the Order of Holy Knights Dragoon, rises up to put an end to Anabella’s tyranny, but his summoned beast’s power goes out of control, and the Self-Governing Dominion’s Island is turned into scorched earth.
Sanbreque — Geography
The Greatwood
A large forest that spreads out in the south-western part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
It is inhabited by many types of creatures, including monsters.
Furthermore, in recent years, large monsters that were driven out of their habitats by the effects of the Black Region have been frequently appearing, and the inhabitants of the neighboring [regions] don’t approach it.
Orabelle Downs
Hill country that spreads out in the southern part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
It is located just north of Greatwood Forest and the inhabitants of the nearby Lostwing have built vineyards on its hills.
Norvant Valley
A valley in the southern-central part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
A steep forest road, located on the west side of Norvant Fortress, leads beyond the valley towards Lostwing.
Glorieuse Strategic Point
Located in the southern-central part of the Empire of Sanbreque, it is a strategic point in the country.
Located down south of the imperial capital of Oriflamme, the region is an important defensive position.
Also, the main road connecting Norvant Fortress and Northreach is called the Marching Road, because both merchants and the Imperial Army come and go on it.
Kokuyōka: I think there is a typo here in Japanese. “Strategic Position” is written as 要衡 here in Japanese, but I know of no actual term that corresponds with. 要衝 is very similar to it visually (esspecially in sans-serif mono-space fonts), and has the idea of “important point/strategic position/key point”, which is exactly what is described here in the description.
The Dragoneer Plains
Plains that spread out in the eastern part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
They are not far from Northreach, but the main road is not as maintained as the one in the direction of Norvant Fortress, and there are many monster sightings.
Kingsfall
A huge waterfall located in the western part of the Empire of Sanbreque.
Various headwaters flow together at Kingsfall, including [the ones] from Greatwood Forest in the south, and continue out to the Rosaria coast.
While it brings the blessing of abundant water to people, in recent years, the number of monsters in the area have increased and it has become difficult to enter.
The Eye of the Tempest
The Eye of the Tempest — Synopsis
A gigantic tornado generated by the out-of-control summoned beast Garuda.
It is so powerful it can rip up surrounding houses and villages and even easily transform the terrain.
The power of an uncontrolled summoned beast can be said to be the end result of a Dominant who has lost themselves.

In 878 CC, it was assaulted by Waloed Soldiers who had turned Akashic due to Primordial Wedge and it suffered immense damage.
Dazbog Castle
A castle located in the south-western part of the Republic of Dhalmekia, inside the Drake’s Fang Mothercrystal.
It is the residence of Hugo Kupka, the Dominant of the summoned beast Titan, and the castle interior is lined with luxurious and gorgeous furnishings.

Drake’s Fang
Drake’s Fang — Synopsis
The Mothercrystal the Republic of Dhalmekia possesses.
It has a unique uplifted shape, like the inside of the gigantic rocky mountain was gouged out [by something].
Kokuyōka: “uplift” is the Japanese geology term for tectonic uplift. It can also mean “protrude”.
Drake’s Fang — Drake’s Fang Disappearance
The Mothercrystal the Republic of Dhalmekia once possessed.
It was a keystone of the Republic’s development, but disappeared in 878 CC when it was invaded by Cid’s Faction.
At that time, [members of] the Orc Tribe from the Ash Continent were also observed, and Waloed’s interference was also conjectured.
Dhalmekia was in the middle of a war with Sanbreque, and [the disappearance] led to them entering into a cease-fire agreement.

The regular army of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
Although it is the national army, soldiers are controlled by each of the five provinces, which are allowed to police themselves except in emergencies.
Excluding some elite [soldiers], they operate in platoons of infantry and magic soldiers, and fight using scimitars and great-axes.
Hugo’s Private Army
Hugo’s Private Army — Synopsis
The private army that Hugo Kupka, the Dominant of the summoned beast Titan, has.
When Hugo learns of Benedikta’s death, he and his private army assault Cid’s Hideaway, who he regards as his foe and destroy it, leaving no trace [behind].
Afterwards, he repeatedly did inhumane acts, such as persecuting Bearers, in order to lure Cid out.

It is composed of seven councilors and has the authority to make decisions about national policy and responses.
Hugo Kupka, the Dominant of the summoned beast Titan, has been granted the position of Economic Adviser and wields authority [in it].
The Council — Dhalmekia’s Collapse

Hugo, who wielded authority [in it] with his position as Economic Advisor, died when Drake’s Fang disappeared.
Having lost their Mothercrystal and Dominant at the same time, they are under pressure to rebuild the national government which has fallen into chaos.
Dhalmekia — Cities & Towns
Kostinice Refugee Town
A town located in the northwestern part of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
Once, it prospered as a trading center, but many of its residents left the town due to the progressing erosion of the Black Region.
Currently, refugees with nowhere to go and merchants who make money through backroom deals have settled there. Although a minimal number of soldiers are station there to maintain public order, bribery runs rampant and it is a lawless area.
Dalimil Relay Station
Dalimil Relay Station — Synopsis
A relay station town located in the western part of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
The town was made at an oasis in the vast Velkroy Desert, and is a rest stop for for peddlers. It is lined with the likes of street stalls, restaurants, and brothels.
It is not far from the Drake’s Fang Mothercrystal, and is famous for the hot springs gushing out of the nearby limestone terraces.
Kokuyōka: “relay station” is literally “inn place”. Dalimil Relay Station is the same type of town as Martha’s Inn is, just bigger.
Dalimil Relay Station — Inauguration of Chief L’ubor
A relay station town located in the western part of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
With the disappearance of Drake’s Fang and the chaos in the country, the traffic [into Dalimil] also decreased, and it was harassed by bandits.
However, due to the efforts of L’ubor, who is also Clive’s collaborator, the residents formed the Vigilante Group and the Support Group and successfully repelled the bandit coalition that had turned Akashic.
Under L’ubor, who was officially inaugurated as chief, [the town] is a taking a new step forward.
The Briar’s Kiss
A smithy in Dalimil Relay Station.
It is known as the most influential shop in the town and the most skilled blacksmiths gather at it.
The shopkeeper, L’ubor, is called 《Růžena Dalimil》, the Ear of the Desert, and was personally connected to the previous Cid.
The Vigilante Group
An organization led by Konrad at Dalimil Relay Station.
It is centered around laborers, like the miners who formerly worked at Drake’s Fang.
In order to protect their town from bandits with their own hands, those who were confident in their own physical strength gathered [together]. They also took up the duty of setting up the defense stockades and the like to protect the town.
The Support Group
An organization managed by Natalie at Dalimil Relay Station.
It is centered around the merchants who deal in many assets, such as the shopkeepers of the stalls on [Dalimil’s] main street.
Before the formation [of the group], they were passive about dealing with the bandits, but after establishing a collaborative system with the Vigilante Group, they have been working hard to store goods to protect the town.
The Fire Butte Merchant Group
A fictional merchant group based in Ran’dellah that L’ubor thought up.
L’ubor had Clive introduce himself as Underhill, who belonged to this group to persuade Natalie.
To persuade Conrad, Viktor had Jill introduce herself as Miss Jane of the Javelin Mercenaries.
Incidentally, Natalie still believes that Clive is the merchant Underhill.
Boklad Market
Boklad Market — Synopsis
A market located in the northeastern part of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
Because of the strategic location leading to the Crystal Road, the market has developed, attracting a variety of goods from every country.
A stagecoach bound for the Self-Governing Dominion’s Island leaves from there.
Boklad Market — The Temporary Checkpoint
A market next to the Great Dzemekys Waterfall located in the northeastern part of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
Because of the strategic location leading to the Crystal Road, the market has developed, attracting a variety of goods from every country.
Currently, a temporary barrier is set up at the Dhalmekia border beyond the market, and those without authorization are not permitted to freely enter or exit.
The Crimson Caravans
Cargo couriers operating around Boklad Market in the Republic of Dhalmekia.
Eloise runs the business, and her younger brother, Theodore is its bodyguard.
They believe in transporting anything as long as they accumulate money. They also act as escape artists to help Bearers desert.
Kokuyōka: The term for “courier” used here very often has a negative connotation and can also mean “smuggler” or “trafficker”. There’s several other terms for “courier” that don’t have this connotation, they’re just not used here.

It has a complex structure that feels like it clings to the cliffs. Its leather goods, the local specialty, are of fine quality and sell for high prices.
It is not far from the Free City of Kanver, but it is an insular village that few people visit.

An abandoned town located in the northernmost part of the Velkroy Desert, which stretches across the western part of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
It had been the base of operations of a bandit coalition that threatened Dalimil Relay Station, but an aether pool formed there and all the bandits turned Akashic.
Kasjlok
An abandoned town located in the northeastern part of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
[Located] downstream from Dalimil Relay Station, it was once a transpiration hub for crystals and the like, but after other main roads were developed, the town gradually [fell into] disuse and was abandoned.
Currently, Eloise’s 《Crimson Caravans》 are repairing it as a Bearer migration place.
Kretov
An abandoned town located in the southern part of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
It had been made using Sky Civilization ruins as a foundation, and was on a main road leading from Dalimil Relay Station to Kanver, but because it was a dangerous road going through a canyon, [Kretov] didn’t develop as a relay station.
Dravozd
A settlement in the mining region that makes up the central part of the Republic of Dhalmekia’s territory.
Its blacksmithing industry is thriving and skilled blacksmiths gather there.
It is said that the best arms in Dhalmekia are made here using the high quality ore from its mines as a raw material.
Dhalmekia — Important Incidents
The Rosaria-Dhalmekia Alliance
In 850 CC, an alliance was formed between the Republic of Dhalmekia and the Duchy of Rosaria.
Its objective was to deter the independence movement in Kanver, one of the Republic’s cities.
The alliance lead to the likes of technological cooperation and an exchange of delegates. After Kanver [gained] independence, it was expanded into 《The Triple Alliance》 that included the Empire of Sanbreque.
The Battle of Nysa Gorge
In 873 CC, a battle happened in the Nysa Gorge between the armies of the Iron Kingdom and the Republic of Dhalmekia.
In order to settle the war with the Iron Kingdom, Dhalmekia asks for cooperation from its ally, the Kingdom of Waloed, at a conference at Fort Zirnitra, but negotiations break down.
Ultimately, they had to rely on the power of the summoned beast Titan, who clashed with Shiva of the Iron Kingdom in the Nysa Gorge, resulting in enormous damage to both armies.
The Zernitra Conference
In 873 CC, a conference was held between the Republic of Dhalmekia and the Kingdom of Waloed at Fort Zirnitra.
Dhalmekia seeks support from its ally, Waloed, to settle the war with the Iron Kingdom that has gone on since the Continental War, but the negotiations break down.
So they had to rely on the power of Titan, Hugo Kupka’s summoned beast.

The Velkroy Desert
A vast desert region in the Republic of Dhalmekia.
The western part is covered with sand and dotted with the ruins of once existing settlements.
In the southern part, a limestone terrace spreads out that is also the source of Dalimil Relay Station’s hot springs.
The main road continues north to south [using] the relay stations as reference points, and merchants and travelers frequently come and go [on it].
The Giant’s Jaw
A mountain region in the southwestern part of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
A wilderness fills the surrounding area and the Drake’s Fang Mothercrystal can be seen in the distance.
Laetny’s Gorge
A canyon extending through the northeastern part of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
The ravine goes through [to where] the Great Dzemekys Waterfall spreads out and in the surrounding area, merchants come and go from the Boklad Market.

The Great Dzemekys Waterfall — Synopsis
A waterfall in the eastern part of the Republic of Dhalmekia, between the Wind Continent and Ash Continent.
It is a cavity that looks like it was gouged out of the land and sea, and the part facing the sea is a great waterfall.
It is said to be the setting of the Tragedy of Dzemekys, which is being passed down as a myth.

It is the only remaining Mothercrystal on the Ash Continent, but the ammount of crystal mined [from it] is limited, so Waloed relies on imports from other countries.

The Mothercrystal the Kingdom of Waloed once possessed.
It was the last existing Mothercrystal after the disappearance of Drake’s Tail in the Crystalline Dominion, but it disappeared after the battle between Clive and Ultima.

A citadel located in the northern-central part of the Kingdom of Waloed.
Capitalizing on the location of the only overland route leading to the royal capital of Stonehyrr, it was built as a checkpoint with a gigantic great wall in a mountainous region.
Formerly, guards in defense of the royal capital were deployed [here], but many of them became Akashic and it fell.
Afterwards, it was occupied by the Orc Tribe and magical beasts that Barnabas added to his subordinates.

Balmung Prison
A military prison adjacent to Ravenwit Citadel in the central part of the Kingdom of Waloed.
Captured Bearers were used to train and feed military magical beasts and were discreetly disposed of.
After Primordial Wedge, all the prison guards and soldiers became Akashic, leaving only the Bearers, nearly all of who lost their lives as victims of the military magical beasts.

The Iron Kingdom — The Crystalline Orthodoxy
An island country located to the west of the Wind Continent.
Its royal capital is Creag Loisgte.
It has occupied the Drake’s Breath Mothercrystal and is in conflict with the neighboring country, the Duchy of Rosaria.
The state religion is the Crystalline Orthodoxy, which believes in crystal itself, and considers magic to be an evil way.
Because of this, they have thoroughly discriminated against Bearers and Dominants, who can use magic.
Kokuyōka: “way” is being used in the metaphoric sense of “way of doing something”, “way of living”, “moral principles” and even “teaching”.

Each name is associated with different aspects of Shiva’s personality. Shiva corresponds with the kind and tranquil aspects. Rudra corresponds with the wild and cruel aspects and is also thematically related to fire.
The Iron Kingdom Army
The regular army of the Iron Kingdom.
The king, who is the supreme leader of the military, commands the battlefield, and unites all the commanding officers.
The soldiers’ weapons are axes and clubs and their attacks rely mainly on [blunt] blows rather than sword attacks.
Because of their ferocious temperament, the countries on the continent fear them as a barbaric people.
The Iron Kingdom’s Invasion of Rosaria
In 860 CC, the Iron Kingdom invaded the Duchy of Rosaria.
At that time, Rosaria was in chaos from loosing Archduke Elwin in the Phoenix Gate Assault.
A sudden invasion of the Iron Kingdom Army dealt a devastating blow to the Rosarian Army, and women and children, including Jil Warrick, were abducted.

The Crystalline Dominion — Synopsis
A self-governing country located in the Ark Archipelago, between the Wind Continent and Ash Continent.
Its capital is Twinside.
It has the Drake’s Tail Mothercrystal. It continued to fight with the neighboring countries around it for the rights [to Drake’s Tail], until the Non-Aggression Treaty was signed and it became a neutral country.
It does not have a Dominant as a fighting power, and a council that includes representatives from every country conducts its politics.
Kokuyōka: “The Crystalline Dominion” is a shortened form of the actual Japanese name, “The Crystal Self-Governing Dominion”. “Self-Governing Dominion” refers to territories that are nominally under some other country’s sovereignty while still having self-rule of their own internal politics. While I usually shorten the title whenever it is “The Crystalline Dominion”, there’s palaces where it is only called a “self-governing dominion” and those I tend to leave as is.
The Crystalline Dominion — The Empire of Sanbreque’s Invasion

It has the Drake’s Tail Mothercrystal. It was a neutral country under the Non-Aggression Treaty, but it was unilaterally invaded by the Empire of Sanbreque.

The Crystalline Dominion — Dion’s Rebellion
A self-governing country located in the Ark Archipelago, between the Wind Continent and Ash Continent.

The Japanese entry is about the island inside the Ark Archipelago that Twinside is on. A treaty between countries explicitly stating they will not invade the Crystalline Dominion.

[The treaty] was formed with the goals of maintaining the neutrality of the Crystalline Dominion that posses the Drake’s Tail Mothercrystal, as well as keeping various countries mutually in check.

In 878 CC, a war happened between the Empire of Sanbreque and the Republic of Dhalmekia.
The Crystalline Dominion, which had the Non-Aggression Treaty with various countries, was unilaterally invaded by Sanbreque in 873 CC.
The Republic of Dhalmekia protested against this, leading to a fight over the Crystalline Dominion.
The Crystalline Dominion War — Ceasefire
In 878 CC, a war happened between the Empire of Sanbreque and the Republic of Dhalmekia.
Dhalmekia, struggling against Sanbreque’s solid defenses, finally offered a ceasefire.
Olivier Lesage, the second prince of Sanbreque, took charge of the ceasefire, and because of his success, he inherited the Divine Imperial Throne.
The Crystal Road
A trade route to the Crystalline Dominion that cuts through the central part of the Wind Continent from east to west.
The region includes the borders of three countries and this trade route is a buffer zone called the Crystal Belt. All fighting is prohibited [in it] and there are no fortifications or check points.
On the other hand, in recent years there has been an issue of noticeable migration [on the Crystal Road] of refugees who have lost their homes due to the effects of the Black Region.
The Free City of Kanver & The Outer Continent
The Free City of Kanver
The Free City of Kanver — Synopsis
A city-state located in the southeastern part of the Wind Continent.
Originally a commercial city that prospered though trade with various countries, it became independent in 857 CC after a civil war with the Republic of Dhalmekia.
Currently, politics is conducted by a parliament of merchants.
It does not have a Mothercrystal within its territory, and as a neutral country, it does not have an army.
The Free City of Kanver — Waloed’s Invasion
A city-state located in the southeastern part of the Wind Continent.
A neutral country that became independent from the Republic of Dhalmekia in 857 CC. It had no formal army, but was protected by a city guard the merchants assembled from private armies.
However, the urban area was destroyed when it was attacked by the Waloed Army, which had been turned Akashic by Primordial Wedge.
Having lost its parliament and a great majority of its citizens, its system as a country collapsed.
Kanver
The capital of the city-state of Kanver is located in the southeastern part of the Republic of Dhalmekia.
It is a prospering trade city and its streets are lined with a variety of shops selling goods from all countries.
The Kanver City Guard
An army corps hired by the Free City of Kanver.
Because Kanver is a neutral country, it was formed not as a country’s regular army, but as a public security force of mercenaries hired by each merchant.

Thugs who target merchants and travelers walking on the roads.

The state religion of the Empire of Sanbreque.
It worships the goddess Greagor as the only diety as conveyed in the Genesis of the Empire.
The highest position in the Church is the Pope, who is elected by the Cardinals, but in reality, the Divine Emperor holds the most power.
Legend has it that the goddess Greagor was accompanied by a [flying] dragon, so [the church] considers them sacred creatures and actively promoted their protection and subordination.

The Messianic Faith

The Gilbert Merchant Church
A folk religion that is pervasive among merchants, centered in the Free City of Kanver.
It reveres Gilbert the Great, who once invented the Wind Continent’s monetary system as the God of Commerce.
The church’s ancestor participated in establishing the common currency, which was named “gil” after the eminent figure.
Merchants pray to [Gilbert’s] shintai, which is represented by gil, for a thriving business and a rise in financial fortune.
Kokuyōka: “shintai”, literally “a god’s body”, is the name of an object that is believed to house the spirit of a kami in Shinto beliefs. Often it is housed in/around a shrine.

International Important Incidents
The Continental War
In 865 CC, the war began with a conflict between the Sanbreque Empire and the Kingdom of Waloed concerning the Osa Strait.
While Sanbreque increased its power on the Wind Continent, the Republic of Dhalmekia, which was opposing the Iron Kingdom at the same time, formed an alliance with Waloed to reinforce its rear, resulting in a great war that divided the continent in two.
The Triple Alliance
In 859 CC, the alliance was formed between the Duchy of Rosaria, the Republic of Dhalmekia and the Empire of Sanbreque.
Originally an alliance between Rosaria and Dhalmekia, it was entered into by the three countries, which had had misgivings about independence movements intensifying in every city after Kanver [gained] independence.
However, the alliance was repealed after the Phoenix Gate Assault.
The New Triple Alliance
In 878 CC, the alliance was mediated in Port Isolde.
In order to avoid the unprecedented havoc that could occur if the centers of all the countries collapsed, they swore to make a way the people should follow.

It is said that Waljas’ mother once threw herself from here out of pity for her own child who was sacrificed. The People of Water still do a ceremony of soul calming for her.
In a place with a nice view of this waterfall, Thalaos, a magical creature produced by Waljas, appeared.

After Ultima invoked Primordial Wedge, the aether-consuming large installed crystals are unable to be used.
The portable crystals are starting to be unusable in some regions, which is having an impact on people’s [daily] lives.
Crystals — People Searching for Crystals

Since Ultima invoked Primordial Wedge, the regions crystals are unusable in has decreased, and all countries have stopped distributing them to the common people.
However, many people still cling to the miraculous power called magic and continue to seek out crystals.
Portable Crystals
Small crystals carried by the people of Valisthea.
They are cut from the Mothercrystals and are fundamentally distributed by the state, but Bearers and criminals are not permitted to own them.
They are extremely valuable to people and are usually carried on one’s person in a specific container.
Installed Crystals
Large crystals set up in cities and towns in Valisthea.
Large-scale magic is manifested by the installed crystals, and is used for things like town wells and blacksmith furnaces.
For this reason, private ownership is rarely allowed and they are primarily managed by the state.
Aether & Magic
Aether
The earth’s life force that is used when manifesting magic.
The amount consumed is different depending on the magic, with more advanced magic that effects a wider area consuming a larger amount of aether.
For example, if a portable crystal is used to light a cooking fire, while an installed crystal is used to light the furnace fire in a blacksmith’s forge, the amount of aether consumed will also be much greater [in the second case].
Aether Resistance
A creature’s resistance to aether.
Dominants and Bearers are highly resistant, and do not become Akashic immediately, even in places with high [aether] concentrations, such as aether pools.
Some creatures, such as chocobos, also are highly resistant, [and therefore] useful.
Aether Pool
A phenomenon that occurs where the earth’s aether balance is disturbed and its concentration suddenly rises.
The normally invisible aether is visible as a blue mist.
Dense aether is hazardous to creatures and continued exposure leads to being poisoned and transforming into a being that has lost its Ego-Self called Akashic.
Kokuyōka: “leads to being poisoned” is can also be “fall into addiction”. This is very similar, if not identical, to how mako poisoning in FFVII is described.
Magic
Magic — Synopsis
The materialization of the earth’s aether.
As well as being manifested through the medium of a crystal, Dominants and Bearers are able to use their own power.
The eight fundamental elements are fire, water, wind, earth, ice, thunder, light and darkness. There is also a small amount of magic that doesn’t have an element.
For the people of Valisthea, it is essential for living [a normal] life.
Magic — The Physical Body and Aether
The materialization of the earth’s aether.
As well as being manifested through the medium of a crystal, Dominants and Bearers are able to use their own power.
Usually, in order to manifest magic, one needs a physical body and aether.
Utlima sought out both to invoke a mighty magic to carry out the creation of the world.
Petrification
A phenomenon where the bodies of Bearers and Dominants who continue to use magic harden.
This is due to the burden placed on the body when using magic and does not progress when using crystals.
Petrification is accompanied by intense pain, and if it expands [too far], it even robs [people of] freedom of movement, which leads to death and finally crumbling into sand and scattering.
A way to cure it has not yet been determined.
Magic Barriers
A defensive wall [made] with magic.
The strength and extent of the deployed defensive wall increase the burden on the body.
The Glazheim Wall
The Glazheim Wall — Synopsis
An extremely vast magic barrier invoked by the summoned beast Odin.
It not only defends against attacks from the outside, but has the power to erase anything that touches the barrier.
It cut off the route in the direction of the royal capital of Stonehyrr.

It not only defends against attacks from the outside, but has the power to erase anything that touches the barrier.

The Phoenix Knight
The Title of Knight
It is an accolade bestowed to a knight of the Duchy of Rosaria who is of particularly high real abilities.
They receive the honor of protecting the Dominant of the summoned beast Phoenix and receive the Blessing of Phoenix which bestows on them part of the summoned beast’s power.
Kokuyōka: “knight”, the profession/job, is in kanji. “Knight”, the title, is in katakana English.
The Blessing of Phoenix
The power Clive received from Joshua.
The Dominant of Phoenix has an ability called Rejuvenation [that lets them] hand out their own power to their chosen people. People who are bestowed with [their] power can use fire magic without crystals.
In the Duchy of Rosaria, it is customary for the Dominant, who is the Archduke, to bestow on the Knights, who are [the Dominant’s] own guardians, [the Dominant’s] power as a “blessing”.
The Knighthood Ceremony
A ceremony held in the Duchy of Rosaria to grant the title of Knight to a selected knight.
It is customary for the Dominant of the summoned beast Pheonix to select the Knight themselves.
In 860 CC, the next Archduke, Joshua Rosfield, gave his own older brother, Clive, the title of Knight and the Blessing of the Phoenix, expressing his respect and utmost trust in his older brother.
