|---|---|---|---|
| First of all, about the man named Hugo Kupka… | Let us begin with the story of Hugo Kupka. |
| That guy’s official title is 《Financial Advisor to the Council of the Republic of Dhalmekia》. | Or the “permanent economic advisor to the Dhalmekian government,” to give him his formal title.
| In a country that emphasizes trade and economics, that title signifies a [social] position that holds both money and [political] power. | In a republic founded on commerce, there could hardly be a more influential position. It has granted him both extraordinary wealth, and extraordinary power.
| Additionally, since he is the trump card of the national defense as the Dominant of the summoned beast Titan, everything goes just the way that guy wants it to. | Not that he ever wanted for the latter. Being Titan’s Dominant, he is also Dhalmekia’s last line of defense—a fact he has used to his considerable advantage.
| Hugo wielded his influence and took control of Drake’s Fang, the nation’s strategic point. | Why, he was even able to pry Drake’s Fang—one of the pillars of the republic— from parliament’s grip.
| As a result, the Drake’s Fang garrison was bought out at the time, and ended up becoming a private army that is loyal to Hugo. | And he was quick to buy the loyalty of the Fang’s protectors. Today, they are his faithful creatures—a private army in all but name.
| I think the one who marched on Rosaria this time is that bastard. | The selfsame army that marches upon Rosarian soil as we speak. |
| As you know, Rosaria is currently a vassal state of the Empire of Sanbreque. | By which I mean imperial soil—not that you needed reminding of the fact. |
| However, speaking of its dominating nation, Sanbreque, it is in the middle of a standoff with the Republic of Dhalmekia in the Crystalline Dominion. Naturally—— | Suffice it to say, the empire’s attentions are elsewhere at present, deadlocked as it is with Dhalmekia over its occupation of the Crystalline Dominion.
| it wants to assemble its military forces in the Self-Governing Dominion. | …Where its legions are now gathered.
| At the time of the disappearance of Drake’s Head, the Iron Kingdom’s base for continental expansion fell. | Scarcely a handful of garrisons remained to secure its western provinces— and half of them left after the fall of Drake’s Breath.
| In other words, [Sanbreque’s] western anxieties have been resolved, and their need to commit to maritime defense also disappeared. | With the threat of the Ironblood thus diminished, they had little cause to fear a maritime invasion.
| Sanbreque immediately transferred most of the forces occupying Rosaria, including the navy, to the Self-Governing Dominion. | And so, today, only a token force guards the former duchy’s shores— as Kupka was quick to descry.
| Hugo didn’t miss the opportunity and advanced his soldiers into Rosaria via a sea route, where security was low. | He landed his troops on the Rosarian coast without encountering so much as a single ship.
| That guy’s target, Clive—— | All for you, Clive. |
| It’s definitely you. | He wants your head. |
| The reality is, Hugo’s troops are focused only on Rosalith Castle and aren’t paying attention to anything else. | And so he and his men advance upon Rosalth: not to capture the province, but to draw you out.
Hugo’s Escape
On hearing Byron’s account when he visited the Hideaway, Vivian gave her perspective on Hugo’s whereabouts.
Byron Rosfield makes a surprise visit to the hideaway, and his observations prove to be the last piece of the puzzle Vivian needs to divine the Kingdom of Waloed’s involvement in Kupka’s evacuation from Rosalith.

| Hugo Kupka brought his men into Rosaria by a sea route. | It is known that Kupka’s forces entered Rosaria via its unguarded coast. |
| But what about the guys from Waloed? | So can the same be said of your visitors from Waloed? |
| The greatest primary factor in why the Kingdom of Waloed can appear at every battlefield is its naval force. | Certainly, her royal navy is famed for the efficiency with which it bears her knights from one battlefield to the next.
| Its armada, with the large black sailing ship Enherjar as its flagship, is [one of] the two distinctive features of that country, alongside its renowned cavalry corps. | And in the Einherjar—or Black Galleon—she boasts a vessel nigh as swift, and every bit as feared as the kingdom’s legendary cavalry.

| Considering it directly, Waloed must also have arrived in Rosaria via a sea route. | Yes…it seems safe to assume that the royalists did indeed enter Rosaria from the sea.
| ——Here’s the problem. | So, then…
| Where’s the best place to hide and take care of a wounded Hugo? | Had you a vested interest in Titan’s survival, whither would you take him? | |
| A place rich in aether to use for healing magic and a residence where that guy can rest—— | Why, home to Drake’s Fang—a place rich enough in aether to conjure the magicks needed to mend his hurts.
| That’s right, none other than Drake’s Fang. | But would that not entail an arduous voyage around the southern cape? |
| So, let’s assume the Waloed Army appeared from a sea route and abducted Hugo Kupka. | Let us say that the royalists did put ashore with a mind to spirit Kupka away from under your very nose…
| According to Sir Rosfield, a fleet appearing to be Hugo’s troops has been observed off the coast of Port Isolde, | Could that truly have been their plan for him? To load him aboard one of the ships flying republican colors sighted off the coast near Port Isolde?
| but to reach the foot of Drake’s Fang, it’s necessary to detour around the southern end of the continent, where the waves are high, which also takes time. | To spend weeks at sea, being tossed hither and yon by unforgiving waves, his life hanging in the balance?
| Would they really force Hugo, who had suffered serious injuries, [to take] a long voyage that could also be life-threatening? | No. The journey would mean Titan’s death, and Kupka’s faithful creatures would not allow it. | |
| Then reports came in that individuals in Waloed armor were heading towards the desert area. | So what then was the plan of our Waloeder friends? Reports suggest they made not for the coast, but for the desert.
| If they chose a land route, crossing the desert would considerably reduce the number of days [spent traveling] compared to a sea route. | And by cutting through the Velkroy, a party traveling light would have Titan back in his bed days before a galley could lurch into port.
| In other words, it wasn’t the ships, but the Waloed soldiers who were the most likely [to have helped] Hugo escape. | To wit, it was the royalists, not the republicans who effected Hugo Kupka’s safe retreat.
| That’s what I think. | I would stake your life on it.
The History of the Kingdom of Waloed
Having defeating his bitter foe Hugo at Drake’s Fang, Clive heard about the Kingdom of Waloed, which he suspects is involved with the Orc Tribes.
Clive returns from Drake’s Fang, where—among other things—he found the Mothercrystal’s mines swarming with Ashen orcs. He asks Vivian for her thoughts on the enigmatic actions of the Kingdom of Waloed and her warrior monarch.

Primordial Wedge’s Effects
Having returned to the Hideaway from the collapsing Crystalline Dominion, Clive tried to grasp the situation in various places that was caused by the change in the look of the sky.
The Crystalline Dominion lies in ruins, and the realm in chaos. Clive goes to Vivian to learn more of the darkness that has swept over Valisthea, and the Black Galleon that sails beneath it.

| As far as the Kingdom of Waloed is concerned, both the Orc Tribes and the Akashic are no longer their adversaries. | Waloed has achieved the impossible, and made bedfellows of beastmen and the aether-addled alike.
| The place you all are going to arrive at is the stronghold of suspicious guys like that. | All of which is a roundabout way of saying that you will be in unknown territory when you set foot on Ash.

| And in fact, most of the coastline is effected by strong ocean currents. An ordinary sailing ship couldn’t even get close. | And that is to say naught of its natural defenses. Offshore currents will cast an ill-equipped ship out to sea one moment, and dash it against the rocks the next.
| But, our Enterprise once managed to arrive there even in circumstances like that. | But then the Enterprise is anything but ill-equipped—and Mid has made land there before.
| That’s right, the black sand beach where you were cast away… The quiet 《Shadow Coast》, is it? | Now, if only there were someone with an intimate knowledge of the Shadow Coast, and where a daring gentleman might put ashore…
