FFXVI Side Quest 1 — The People Living in the Hideaway

The People Living in the Hideaway

In the Kitchen of Cid’s Hideaway, Kenneth, the Head Chef,
asked me to help out the kitchen by delivering food.
It seems three residents are waiting for their food to arrive.

The ones Kenneth asked me to deliver food to were all
Bearers who lived similarly to “people” in the Hideawy.
Here, they too can act of their own intentions.

Food for Thought

Kenneth asks Clive
to help him in his work by delivering food to some of the hideaway’s residents.
Three hungry customers await…

Clive delivers food
to three fellow Bearers who’ve found refuge at the hideaway.
In doing so, he sees how each, in their own way, now lives on their own terms.

All the patrons I carried food to were Bearers. They were bearers. All three of them.
Do Bearers live just like people do in this place…?Not slaves waiting upon their master’s pleasure, but men waiting to be fed like equals.
Kenneth, the Head ChefKenneth, Kitchen Head
Yeah, that’s right.
This Hideaway is that sort of place.
Indeed. Equality is the very cornerstone upon which our little community is founded.

Bearers are treated like slaves outside of here.Beyond these walls, we are scorned as slaves…
They can’t talk or eat on their own.
And of course it’s impossible for them to get hot meals.
Speaking only when spoken to, eating only what scraps our masters deign to give us.
The first hot meal here ist he first many will have known.
But in this Hideaway,
they can talk of their own volition and eat of their own volition.
In the hideaway, we are free. Truly free. To speak as we please, when we please.
And to eat what and when we desire.
“to eat” as it’s written here can also be an idiom for “to make a living”.
“volition” is the term usually translated as “will”.
That alone
makes coming here worth it, right?
More than reason enough to trust in Cid’s vision, wouldn’t you say?

It’s fine for everyone to freely pass the time here,
but I just wish they’d eat their food before it gets cold.
Eat your food while it’s hot, and see that none goes to waste—follow those two simple rules,
and you will always be welcome at the Fat Chocobo.
